Confidence in Yourself Vs. Confidence in Him

Isn't it interesting how as young children it is so natural for us to see ourselves as royalty yet as adults it seems furthest from truth? Somewhere along the journey of growing up society changed our opinion about ourselves and tainted our eye's ability to view ourselves as the royalty we are in Christ. I spent some time asking the Father what it is that causes this shift and how can we get back to the simple truths we once held as children. He began to show me the issue. Society tells us to be confident in ourselves. On the surface this seems to be good but upon deeper observation we find that it is rooted in a burdensome scheme of the enemy. Allow me to explain, in order to find confidence within ourselves, or to be confident in ourselves, we must find something about ourselves worthy of confidence. With this learned behavior, we see children of the King measuring themselves based on their failures and successes. This results in an identity sourced from a long list of weights that we have graffitied on our mind as identifying adjectives that we hope will stack up with a reasonable balance of good qualities worthy of confidence. People living under this advise find themselves attempting to hide shortcomings and showcasing strengths. We see this all over social media and in the way people interact with one another. I would like to suggest to you that there is a better way, a lighter yoke. Scripture tells us in 2 Corinthians that in Christ we are a new creation, that word "new" in Hebrew means restored to youth, refreshed, rejuvenated - brand new. This is telling us that the slate has been wiped clean and the restart button has been pressed. You are brand new in Him, meaning that if we find our confidence in Christ rather than ourselves we no longer have to bring something of worth to the table. We no longer have to measure up, because He already made you clean, new, and valuable. Our old self was crucified with Christ, in order that our body of sin might be done away with. We are free. When we source our confidence in Him rather than ourselves, we tap into a well of peace, strength, confidence, and refreshing unlike anything the world can offer. Jesus tells us that He is the Living Water and that He quenches our desires and needs. Let's source our confidence in Christ and stop allowing the theories of the world to weigh us down into believing we must achieve a value that the King already paid.
